But for the opportunity to make his father proud (and hate him less for being gay) he chooses to go after that beautiful boy with f-slurs and a lot of other even more hurtful words. I believe I would feel pretty angry myself.Ībout Justin Fucking Jennings: imagine a young teenage boy, emotionally abandoned by his parents, who hates himself for being gay (that self hatred inflicted by his own father) being in love with the beautiful, openly gay boy from school. Only to then come back to this town that didn’t accepted him years later to find that the same town is now super supportive of a certain ranch full of queers, find out that the boy who mobbed him into a suicide attempt was in reality gay himself and secretly in love with him while he made his life a living hell and on top of it all, find that the straight guy (Trip) he had a massive crush on in high school is not only suddenly queer himself but is also married to a man now. “No,” is all I manage before letting the door swing shut behind me.Ībout Charlie Goddamn Wills: imagine a young, openly queer boy in a small town getting harassed by his peers for being gay (mainly Justin) that ended in wishing to leave this shitty life for good. I know Justin regrets what happened between us in school. This is a romance about a former bully and his victim, a boy who then attempted suicide because he couldn’t take it anymore. Okay, it’s needless to say that this story approaches a very very delicate matter and I wasn’t sure if it was possible to write a sensible and believable romance after what had happened between these two in the past. I’m even more fired up now after my re-read. My heart! ♡ I can’t believe it’s finally release day for the second book in the series in a few days.
